Postcards Flying Through the Sky

Hey kids.

So today I want to talk about something lovely and wonderful. A little sum-somethin’ to put a zing in your heart and a smile on your face. A friend of mine has a son in kindergarten. They’re doing a postcard project. If you live anywhere outside of Illinois, you can send them a postcard:

Mrs. Hermes’ Kindergarten Class
Grand Prairie
10480 W. Nebraska
Frankfort, IL 60423
USA

Remember that these are kindergarteners: Keep it gentle and simple. When they get a postcard, they’ll mark the location on their classroom map and discuss the place. I think that this a wonderful way to promote peace and dialogue. For us to learn about each other. What if we all received postcards in our kindergarten class from people all around the world?

And while I love me my technology, a postcard in the mailbox beats a regular email any day, hands down. Postcards are the old-school version of tweets on Twitter. And unlike tweets, they look fabulous up on a classroom wall!

And for the record, I’m sending the word out b/c I love the idea – Grand Prarie and this blog are not connected in any way whatsoever.

I hope that you’ll send a postcard! The project is running all school year, so reach out the people in your life and ask them to send postcards.

For those of you that are older, do you have a favorite postcard memory? One that you sent or one that you received?

I have this vision of postcards flying through the sky to a kindergarten classroom in Illinois. Woo-hoo!
